As a Stockroom Clerk with INDOT, you will help ensure our field teams have the tools and materials they need to keep Indiana’s roads safe and efficient. You will manage the flow of parts and supplies, interact with internal teams and outside vendors, and keep accurate inventory through our MCMS software system. This position is ideal for someone who is dependable, has a strong understanding of inventory control, and enjoys supporting operational excellence in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Accurately issue and receive stock, parts, and supplies for transportation operations

• Coordinate inventory needs with district personnel and shop staff

• Communicate with outside vendors regarding orders, billing issues, and service needs

• Maintain and organize stockroom inventory using INDOT’s software systems

• Prepare purchase orders and ensure compliance with procurement procedures

• Conduct periodic surplus reviews and assist with annual inventory surplus sales

• Support inventory control, safety procedures, and general storeroom maintenance

• Operate forklifts and other equipment for safe stock handling and movement

• Provide guidance and support to staff as needed

Qualifications

We’re looking for candidates who meet the following requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Valid driver’s license required

• Six (6) months of training or experience in inventory control

• Three (3) months of training or experience in OSHA or other safety standards

• Ability to use inventory systems and follow procurement processes

• Basic arithmetic skills (addition, subtraction, percentages, fractions)

• Ability to operate a forklift (training provided if needed)

• Strong communication and organizational skills

• Familiarity with storeroom or warehouse environments preferred
